2nd/3rd Grade Radial Nature Designs

Prior to the students' current Unit, Plushy Monsters, room 202 created Radial Nature Designs. Throughout the course of this Unit the students learned about symmetry, radial designs, warm/cool colors, and a charcoal transfer technique.

Upon completion of this Unit of study each student reflected on symmetry, cool/warm color usage in art, and how to create personal art.

Kindergarten Burr Re-Design

Most children go to school… but what would school be like if students created it? After reading A World of Your Own by Laura Carlin students redesigned their rooms, then, they redesigned Burr... from the look of the building outside to the inside of four different classrooms. As students created a "school of their own" they discussed vocabulary words such as Design and Invention whilst creating a school with meaningful classes such as swimming, tasting food, and of course, Lego class.

Although this unit did take longer than most of the units I have done with Kindergarten and 1st grade it was well worth their time, the students really did enjoy feeling like they could create their own school and they completed this unit meeting any challenges by working together.
